Katie Roberts (b. 2003) is an American composer originally from Monson, Massachusetts. Growing up, she studied piano and voice, and played clarinet in her school’s band. She received her Bachelors in Composition from the University of Hartford’s Hartt School studying with Dr. Gilda Lyons, Dr. Thomas Schuttenhelm and Dr. Kyle Grimm. She is currently residing outside of Philadelphia getting her Masters in Composition at West Chester University’s Wells School of Music.
Her composition style is typically a very spacial and open texture of writing. She specializes in writing instrumental music, from chamber works, to large ensemble pieces.
“One of my favorite parts of composing is working with performers to put as much of their personality into the piece. I love the interpersonal relationships that come from collaborating with others on your pieces, from the beginning idea stages to a performance and recording of the piece.”
